Feats & Special Abilities
Feat / Ability Description/Notes
Forester Whisper spent years learning the elven ways of the forest from his druidic mother. He gains a +1 bonus on Hide, Listen, Move Silently, and Spot checks. When in forest terrain, this bonus increases to +3.
Weapon Focus (Longsword) Whisper spent much of his childhood training with the chosen weapon of his father's ranger heritage, the longsword. His extensive skill grants him a +1 bonus to all attack rolls with a longsword.
Diehard After his failure to stand with his father against the foul lich which took his father's life, Whisper dedicated himself to surpassing his elven frailty. When reduced to negative hit points, he stablizes automatically and may continue to act.
Two Weapon Defense Whisper has spent decades training in the two weapon style his father once taught him, mastering both offensive and defensive techniques. When wielding two weapons he gains a +1 shield bonus to AC.
Endurance An experienced ranger, Whisper is accustomed to long treks through the wilderness with little rest. This grants him the ability to reverie in light armor without becoming fatigued. Endurance also grants him a +4 bonus to: Swim checks made to resist nonlethal damage, Constitution checks made to continue running, Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from a forced march, Constitution checks made to hold his breath, Constitution checks made to avoid nonlethal damage from starvation or thirst, Fortitude saves made to avoid nonlethal damage from hot or cold environments, and Fortitude saves made to resist damage from suffocation.
Track A skilled woodsman and ranger, Whisper is well versed in the hunter's ways of tracking. He is able to follow any tracks with a Survival check, regardless of DC.
Favored Enemy (Ex) All rangers are able to learn the vulnerabilities and habits of certain foes. Unlike most rangers, Whisper has specialised in the hunt of the undead almost to the exclusion of all others. He gains a bonus to all Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks, as well as weapon damage rolls, against the following creature types: Undead +8, Magical Beasts +2, Monstrous Humanoids +2, Fey +2.
Wild Empathy (Ex) Like any ranger, Whisper has a natural affinity for animals of the wild. He may improve the attitude of any animal, just like a Diplomacy check, by rolling 1d20+9.
Combat Style (Ex) A skilled initiate of the two weapon fighting style, Whisper may act as if he had the Two Weapon Fighting and Improved Two Weapon Fighting feats when wearing light or no armor.
Woodland Stride (Ex) Years of training with his druidic mother taught Whisper to move as if one with the wilderness. He may move through any sort of undergrowth at his normal speed, and without taking damage or suffering any other impairment.
Swift Tracker (Ex) Years of tracking ellusive prey have taught Whisper to more easily follow tell tale signs and tracks. He may move at his normal speed when following tracks without taking any penalty. He takes only a -10 penalty when moving at up to twice his normal speed while tracking.
Evasion (Ex) A keen eye and graceful reflexes have saved many wood elves from peril, but few can so easily evade attacks of magical origin. If Whisper makes a successful Reflex saving throw against an attack that normally deals half damage on a successful save, he instead takes no damage.
Animal Companion Ex) Whisper is followed by his faithful hawk, Archedies. The connection between these two is re-inforced by the ranger's nature magic, granting his hawk the powers of a 5th level druid's animal companion.

Description
Standing tall and strong, Whisper is a powerful and dominating sylvan elf. Outside of battle, he is commonly garbed in simple woolen clothing of earthly hues. His dark green hair falls loose nearly to his waist, curled and thick like ancient vines. Bright blue eyes stand out from his dark complexion, and an otherwise beautiful visage is marred by a thick scar which runs along his jaw and across his throat.
When prepared for battle, Whisper is garbed in a suit of jet black elven chain. About his shoulders is a fine cloak of green thistledown, and his face is concealed behind a black thistledown mask with his long hair tightly braided and pulled through the back. A sheath along his back holds a powerful enchanted longsword named "Lichbane".
Regardless of his purpose, Whisper always wears his ancestral blade "Deathsong" upon his waist.

Personality
As a youth, Whisper was arrogant and proud. The son of a powerful druid and honored ranger, he was rash and sure of himself. That all changed the day if fell in combat to a lich, and his father paid the ultimate price. Now he is a dedicated and compassionate guardian of nature. Calm and humble, Whisper is a friend to all who respect nature and her law. Known among his neighbors as a compassionate healer, he is also a famed swordsman. Though skilled in combat, he is wise enough to know battle should only be a last resort. There are exceptions to this rule however, the unnatural dead. These foul abominations suffer the full wrath of this powerful ranger and tortured son.

Background
Whisper was born in a small tree-village deep within the High Forest, to a druidic mother and ranger father. The Lord and Lady Quietbreeze were the heroes of this small community, and he was raised a child of privledge. Throughout his youth, Vareahl was regaled with the stories of his parents' courage against the great dragon that had plagued them a century before. He dedicated himself to his father's teachings, excelling at the twin sword style from an early age. Due to skill in combat and the faith of his mother's teachings, Lord Quietbreeze felt his son was ready for his first hunt far younger than most rangers.
The two set out at first light, venturing deep into the surrounding woods in search of prey powerful enough to test the young Quietbreeze. What they found would shape Vareahl's entire life. Half a day's journey from their home, Vareahl and his father discovered a strange burrow - nearly large enough to fit an adult elf. Down, beneath the forest floor, they followed the long tunnel to a strange barrier of holy and vines. Young Vareahl stepped forward to slice apart the impeding wall, and with his first cut a blast of air knocked the two rangers back and blew apart the plant wall.
The lich strode forth, freed at last from his tomb by the stroke of a young ranger. The first to recover from the blast, Vareahl advanced on the cadaverous sorcerer with both longswords drawn. With a smirk he launched at the seemingly frail foe, too fast for his father to cry out in warning. Seemingly a statue so fast did it move, the lich knocked Vareahl from the sky, tearing apart his throat with its filthy claws.
Knowing he stood no chance against this foul sorcerer, Lord Quietbreeze engaged the lich for long enough to recover his son's fallen form. Though greviously wounded, Lord Quietbreeze somehow escaped the lich's barrow. Bleeding from many wounds, he staggered into the village. Entrusting Vareahl's dying form to his wife, the great ranger collapsed and breathed no more.
Recovering consciousness as his mother worked at healing him, he heard the folk outside discussing his father's death. Realization washed over him, and he halted his mother's hand. For weeks he waited for his wounds to heal, refusing his mother's divine magic. Though the deep scars across his throat would take most of his voice from him, he gladly accepted it as penance for his actions.
Blaming himself for his father's death, he led the other rangers of the village on a hunt for the lich. When they reached the barrow, however, there was no sign of the lich. Anguished, Vareahl, or Whisper as he was now called, dedicated his life solely to the hunt of the undead.
For decades he remained within the village, protecting its borders from all dangers and mastering his father's twin sword style. Though it hurt him to leave his mother, Whisper had to leave High Forest if he was to ever find the lich who had taken Lord Quietbreeze from them. The day he left, adorned his father's uniform elven chain and his twin blades Deathsong and Lichebane, the entire village saw him off. His youngest cousin, Kayle, entrusted in him the thistledown cloak they had crafted and his mother gave him a pair of special bracers and a hand-made holy symbol of his lord.
Now, with his faithful hawk Archedies, Whisper journeys forth from High Forest to master his skills and discover the identity of the lich who took his father from him.
