Feats & Special Abilities
Feat / Ability Description/Notes
Track To find tracks or to follow them for 1 mile requires a successful Survival check. You must make another Survival check every time the tracks become difficult to follow. You move at half your normal speed (or at your normal speed with a -5 penalty on the check, or at up to twice your normal speed with a -20 penalty on the check).
Rapid Shot (Combat Style) You can get one extra attack per round with a ranged weapon. The attack is at your highest base attack bonus, but each attack you make in that round (the extra one and the normal ones) takes a -2 penalty. You must use the full attack action to use this feat.
Elven magic immunities Immunity to magic sleep effects, and a +2 racial saving throw bonus against enchantment spells or effects.
Low-Light Vision An elf can see twice as far as a human in starlight, moonlight, torchlight, and similar conditions of poor illumination. She retains the ability to distinguish color and detail under these conditions.
Point-Blank Shot You get a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls with ranged weapons at ranges of up to 30 feet.
Favored Enemy: Animal (?) At 1st level, a ranger may select a type of creature from among those given on Table: Ranger Favored Enemies. The ranger gains a +2 bonus on Bluff, Listen, Sense Motive, Spot, and Survival checks when using these skills against creatures of this type. Likewise, he gets a +2 bonus on weapon damage rolls against such creatures. At 5th level and every five levels thereafter (10th, 15th, and 20th level), the ranger may select an additional favored enemy from those given on the table. In addition, at each such interval, the bonus against any one favored enemy (including the one just selected, if so desired) increases by 2.
Wild Empathy A ranger can improve the attitude of an animal. This ability functions just like a Diplomacy check to improve the attitude of a person. The ranger rolls 1d20 and adds his ranger level and his Charisma modifier to determine the wild empathy check result. The typical domestic animal has a starting attitude of indifferent, while wild animals are usually unfriendly. To use wild empathy, the ranger and the animal must be able to study each other, which means that they must be within 30 feet of one another under normal visibility conditions. Generally, influencing an animal in this way takes 1 minute, but, as with influencing people, it might take more or less time. The ranger can also use this ability to influence a magical beast with an Intelligence score of 1 or 2, but he takes a -4 penalty on the check.
Blind Fight In melee, every time you miss because of concealment, you can reroll your miss chance percentile roll one time to see if you actually hit. An invisible attacker gets no advantages related to hitting you in melee. That is, you don’t lose your Dexterity bonus to Armor Class, and the attacker doesn’t get the usual +2 bonus for being invisible. The invisible attacker’s bonuses do still apply for ranged attacks, however. You take only half the usual penalty to speed for being unable to see. Darkness and poor visibility in general reduces your speed to three-quarters normal, instead of one-half.
Sneak attack +1d6 Your attack deals extra damage any time your target would be denied a Dexterity bonus to AC (whether the target actually has a Dexterity bonus or not), or when you flank your target.

Description
Dwayne doesn't do much to distinguish himself from the typical image of the emaciated elf, of slender build and middling height, perhaps a bit taller than expected, but he manages not to overcompensate for it. His bright, flaming head of hair also doesn't do much for the image of the methodical, stalking hunter his line of work would imply, either, but it manages to cover his natural elven ears oddly well. His thin, yet even face could let him walk through a crowd without being accosted, and would neither turn the heads of many admirers nor many racists. Normally, his gait looks as clumsy as that of any growing young man, but somehow he rarely seems to trip or fall far behind, and it doesn't seem to matter under pressure.

Personality
For a self-reliant career survivalist, Dwayne's not a very forceful man by most standards. On first meetings, he can be something approaching timid, and even might even have a weak, naive appearance. He can be a confusing presence socially, even to himself, and says he finds that he tends to talk too much about nothing, and not enough about what's important. However, his guardedness belies an uncommon eye for detail and an active, open mind. Dwayne loves to share the details of his interests with others, and tries to serve as a warm voice in a dark place when he's given a chance.

Dwayne rarely acts like a goal-oriented person outside the wilderness, which often leaves him becoming interested in the lives of random passerby, and despite his shyness he sometimes manages to involve himself in their affairs, in an attempt to be of use. He's easily fascinated by the arts of craftmaking, aesthetics and performance, especially music, and can be driven to distraction by a particularly good ballad.
But again in spite of his soft spots, Dwayne is naturally capable of keeping his mind clear and focused on a journey, through skirmishes, challenges and tough conditions. He takes the well-being of himself and any companions very seriously, using the best of any opportunity his ranger skills will give him to finish his job.

Background
Dwayne adopted what he calls himself from a word that is simply a name in our language, but that is similar to a racial slur meaning human in the dialect of a distant race of elves. Never truly at home with the character or content of the days he spent with his elven family, he left home on an incredulously far-reaching journey to find himself, and maybe some adventure, while still considered a child by his kin. He's still not sure what virtues have survived him so far.

Though he needs to use the survival skills he learned from his kin to make a living in his new environment, he's fascinated enough by human society and culture, as dramatic and depressing as it can seem, to constantly keep himself occupied with something or another.
